Burgerelle began five years ago in Daechi-dong, near Hanti Station, under its original name, Boss Burger.
From the beginning, the goal was clear: serve the students filling the neighborhood's academies, where kids grind 10-12 hours a day-by giving them something better than fast food. At a time when American-style burgers were gaining popularity, we focused on delivering an authentic experience through honest ingredients, proper technique, and everyday accessibility. Just as important, we wanted to quietly introduce and build an understanding of real hamburger culture.
We opened the same month COVID began. While trends came and went-ghost kitchens rising and disappearing-we stayed focused on one thing: feeding people well. Over time, we became a reliable neighborhood staple. The students came back again and again, and in doing so, they shaped who we became. What started as a simple idea turned into something more meaningful-we became part of their routine, a small break in long and demanding days.
Daechi-dong is a unique place. Students spend years there, working toward admission into top universities like SKY universities. Being part of that environment-and serving those studentsdefined our foundation. It's a neighborhood we hope to return to one day, with the vision of helping shape it into one of the most exciting food destinations in Seoul.
After five years, it was time for the brand to grow. Burgerelle represents that next step. The food has evolved alongside us. We now use premium ingredients such as Andong Hanwoo beef, roast our own chickens in-house, and produce our own ketchup and sauces. Every element is developed with intention, combining quality sourcing with a distinct Los Angeles-inspired approach. Burgerelle is built on the same core principle as day one-serve something real, satisfying, and worth coming back for-while continuing to push toward a broader vision of bringing New American food culture to South Korea.
